Subtropical Wet Climate
Quzhou is located in the subtropical monsoon climate area. It has distinctive four seasons, with long winter and summer, and short spring and autumn. Sunshine is sufficient, rain is plenty, temperature is moderate, frost-free period is long, making Quzhou obvious in the following characteristics: early spring and short autumn with long summer and winter, warm climate and sufficient sunshine with obvious dryness and flood. Throughout the whole year, winds in the winter days are stronger than that in the summer days. The city area and Changshan county are always bestowed with northeast and east winds, Longyou county and Jiangshan city usually see northeast winds, Kaihua county often experience north winds. The landform in the city is varied. In the changing period of spring and summer, the complicated landform usually helps stop the stationary front here, making the city bestowed with more opportunities of rain. And during the hot summer days, typhoon usually see its difficulty in entering the city area, thus showing little influence on the weather condition of the city, leaving the city with relatively more hot days.
Spring – Starting from March 14th – 18th, and see its conclusion during May 19th – 20th, with the whole period of 66 – 72 days. During the spring days, the cold and warm air transfers frequently, and the temperature rises in a wave shape. Rain increases obviously, sunny days and rainy days usually replace each other in a fairly short time. When strike by strong cold air, hails and strong winds are easy to be seen.
Summer – Beginning at May 20th – 29th, and shall last 113 – 133 days. It is the most rainy days in a year from the initial summer to the early July. In the plum rain season, rainy days usually see its increase, the amount of rain is usually large, and storms can often be seen, thus having easy access to floods. After the plum rain season, Quzhou will encounter the hot summer days, during which the hot sunny days shall be in dominance, making dryness find its easy access to come. Rainfall is usually very limited in these days, and rains are usually thunderous rains in a limited time after noon. When a thunderous rain comes, strong winds are usually seen, and easy to cause a disaster. Typhoons usually happen in the hot summer days, but they are seldom able to enter the city area, and thus usually show its little influence. Rains brought by typhoons are good for the relief of dryness, but can also cause floods in the hilly areas.
Autumn – Since September 19th – 30th, the places in the city area shall see their autumn days subsequently. Autumn shall be over by November 18th – 19th, lasting 60 – 61 days. In the early autumn, the cold and warm airs shall meet each other, and cloudy and rainy days with low temperatures shall be formed. However, generally, sunny days with few rainy days shall be the key note, dryness can sometimes be seen, thus forming a condition of dryness in autumn after that in summer. In the late autumn days, sunny days shall often be seen, and temperature shall be fit for people, which is nicknamed as “Short Spring in October”.
Winter – Starting from November 19th – 30th, and ending at March 13th – 17th, lasting 105 – 119 days. Cold air shall frequently come in the winter days, making the Quzhou dry and cold. Frost, snow and freezing are usually seen. When strike by the cold wave, disastrous weathers such as big snow and freezing shall be seen.
