Lying in the west of Zhejiang Province, Quzhou is on the upstream of the Qiangtang River and in the west part of the Jinhua-Quzhou Basin. In the south, Quzhou connects with Nanping of Fujian, and in the west, meets with Shangrao and Jingde Town of Jiangxi, while in the north, it neighbors with the Yellow Mountain of Anhui, and in the east, adjoins with Jinhua, Lishui and Hanghou within the same province, thus making it a fat piece of pork in consideration of its military &#118alue. Its geographical position is 118°0l′一119°20′east longitude, 28°14′~29°30′north attitude. With the east-to-west width of 127.5 kilometers and the south-to-north length of 140.25 kilometers, the total area is 8841.12 km2, holding a population of 2456 thousand by the end of 2005. Quzhou is a city being the center of the borders of four provinces, respectively, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Anhui. It is also an ecological city in western Zhejiang, a national historical and cultural famous city and a national chemical industry base.
With roads, waterways and airlines reaching everywhere, transportation in Quzhou is fairly convenient. In terms of the roads, national ways and provincial paths going through the city area, helping form a half-an-hour economic circle from the city to the counties (cities) under its jurisdiction. The civil air lines going to Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and so on have been open while Quzhou section of the Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou high way has finished its construction. Furthermore, Quzhou section of the Yellow Mountain-Quzhou-Nanping express way, Quzhou section of the Hangzhou-Xin’an River-Jingde Town high way, Longyou-Xin’an River high way, Longyou-Lishui high way have started their construction. Regarding railways, the Zhejiang-Jiangxi electrical railway going through the city area from east to west, Jiujiang-Jingde Town-Quzhou railway has also finished the construction of its Quzhou-Changshan section, helping form a two-hour ride transportation circle among Quzhou and other central cities on the borders of four provinces, and thus, Quzhou is bestowed with an obvious location advantage. The place where the municipal government is located is 250 kilometers away from Hangzhou, the provincial capital, and is 1440 kilometers away from the national capital Peking, 450 kilometers away from the Shanghai port, 366 kilometers away from the Ningbo port, 350 kilometers away from the Wenzhou port, and 140 kilometers away from Yiwu, the city of Chinese small goods.
